Madison, MS Air Conditioner Repair Services

Madison Station preceded the development of the city of Madison as the railroad in Mississippi was developed. A nearby town named Madisonville was more developed, but the railroad station drew many of its residents, leading to the eventual demise of Madisonville. The new community was named in honor of President James Madison. The area experienced a great deal of damage as a result of the Civil War. After the war’s conclusion, the community continued to grow as the railroad prospered. The efforts of the Madison Land Company to spur growth led to the incorporation of the community, but the village charter was lost at a later date as a result of failure to hold regular elections. The community continued as a town until it was re-classified as a city in 1985.

Madison’s population was recorded at 24,149 during the 2010 U.S. Census. 29.2 percent of residents are children, and 11.1 percent are over the age of 65. The median age in the community is 40.1 years, slightly more than the state median of 37.7 years. The community demonstrates a high level of stability as 90 percent of residents have lived in the same home for at least one year. Education is also a top priority, reflected by a high school graduation rate of 98.1 percent for residents over the age of 25. 63.1 percent of these residents also hold four-year college degrees or higher post-secondary degrees.

Madison County Public Schools is the district responsible for oversight of public educations for students living in the city of Madison. Six public school campuses are located in the city, and students are provided with the opportunity to excel in academic and extracurricular areas. Families in the community are also served by 18 preschools and 19 private schools for addressing particular educational and childcare interests.

Residents with an interest in post-secondary educational opportunities can consider at least 14 public and private institutions within a distance of 131 miles of Madison. These include the nearby options of Jackson State University, Millsaps College, and Belhaven University, all located approximately 14 miles away in Jackson. A Holmes Community College campus is also located in nearby Ridgeland, just 6 miles from Madison.

Madison highlights the importance of families, and the community was featured as one of Family Circle Magazine’s top 10 towns for families in 2007. There are many special events throughout the year that appeal to residents of all ages, including movies under the stars at local parks and community celebrations of national holidays. The Department of Parks and Recreation promotes wellness through active living, maintaining a number of facilities and offering youth sports and other opportunities to get moving. The Madison County Library System also promotes literacy for residents of all ages.

Madison conditions can range dramatically through the year. On average, summer high temperatures are in the 90s, but a record high of 107 has been reached on three different occasions. Summer rainfall averages more than 4 inches per month, making humidity a challenging issue in light of the heat. Winter low temperatures average in the mid-30s, but a record low of -5 degrees was recorded in 1940.
